Why are playground safety stickers so important?

Playground safety stickers are required by ASTM and CPSC standards to be prominently displayed on all public playground equipment. Besides the age designation panels at the entry of a playground area, the safety stickers are to be placed on different posts of the composite play sets as well as independent events, such as climbers and swings.

The main reason why these stickers are important is of course "legal liability". It is telling your playground users that the equipment at hand is designed for (For example) older kids and that it is not appropriate for younger children. Therefore, if your kids is hurt because you haven't respected the age designation of the set, it's on you. Law suits that ensue from any such action are not likely to advance far because you have done the due diligence in alerting the public about the limitation of your play equipment.
